COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME
Community Employment Programme
Lifestyle Development Group in partnership with DSP have been involved in Community Employment (CE) Programmes for more than 30 years, providing practical work experience and accredited training to its participants.
Progression into employment or further education underpins the bases of our CE Programme.
In 2015 Lifestyle became the dedicated CE Childcare Programme in the greater Drogheda area providing 19.5 hours per week work experience in community childcare facilities including Mahaby (Mosney), Swallywags (Togher), Women’s & Children’s Refuge, Moneymore and Lifestyle under the direct supervision of Qualified Childcare Practitioners.
Lifestyle CE Childcare Project involves own-time learning, QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) night time training in Childcare over a 2-year time-frame geared towards a Level 5 qualification in childcare with a further 1-year work experience in the same centre on CE. These annual contracts will be subject to work performance, ability and availability to train in this area. Childcare staff will have the opportunity of up to 3 years on CE.
What are the Benefits of Participation on the Childcare Training & Development Programme?
The Childcare Training and Development Programme will provide you with:
- Quality work experience and training linked to the National Framework of Qualifications;
- A clear career path and qualifications in the childcare sector;
- Strong links between participation on CE and employment opportunities in the childcare sector.
There are also opportunities for CE participants working in support roles such as Receptionist, Administration, Clerk, Cleaner, Social Education support etc. CE participants have the opportunity to pursue a generic qualification suitable to their support role.
Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are over 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the local intreo office.
Applicants must supply suitable references and be prepared to complete a Garda Vetting application form.
Testimonials from Lifestyle Childcare Assistants
“After a banking career I took some years off to raise my children and found that when I wanted to return to work the CE Programme worked perfectly for me. The work experience allowed me to feel fully part of the Childcare Team and my confidence was raised by working alongside those who were fully qualified. The training process was very transparent and easy to access, I found the modules very interesting and got great support from my fellow trainees. Furthermore, I feel the training and work experience I received has allowed me to develop my communication skills and has given me a greater understanding of the needs of children. I now have a greater empathy towards children and families in general.”
“I came from a retail background but decided I needed a change. The CE Programme worked better for me than attending a full-time college course. I got the benefit of working, training and getting paid. Sometimes the training was challenging but the sense of achievement when I had completed the modules and received my qualifications was very rewarding. I had always wanted to work with children and the CE programme allowed me to realise and reach my goal. I would heartily recommend this programme to those who seek a change of career and to get the valuable training and work experience required to work in a sector that is so important to the community.”
